About the author
Martin grew up during a time of profound cultural and political transformation. The events surrounding the Velvet Revolution of 1989 left a lasting impression on him, reinforcing the importance of freedom, expression, and responsibility—values that continue to inform his creative work today. In 1990, Martin moved to the United States to pursue his artistic aspirations. Music became his first creative language, and he spent years as a drummer, recording albums and performing internationally. This background in music deeply influences his approach to storytelling, giving his writing a natural rhythm, emotional pacing, and attentiveness to mood and atmosphere. Over time, Martin’s creative expression expanded beyond music into writing. Drawn to storytelling as a way to connect generations and cultures, he began crafting narratives that explore curiosity, resilience, and the unseen connections between people and the natural world. His work reflects a thoughtful balance between imagination and real-world values, often inviting readers to pause, reflect, and engage more deeply with their surroundings. His debut children’s book, Inky’s Journey: The Story of a Lost Baby Octopus, embodies these themes. The story follows a young octopus navigating the vast ocean in search of her family, encountering challenges that teach lessons about friendship, perseverance, and environmental responsibility. While written for young readers, the book resonates with audiences of all ages, offering meaningful insights wrapped in a gentle, imaginative adventure. Martin is particularly passionate about environmental awareness and believes that stories can help foster empathy and stewardship from an early age. Through Inky’s Journey, he encourages children to care for animals, protect the ocean, and understand that even small actions can make a positive impact on the world. At the heart of Martin’s creative philosophy is a forward-looking outlook on life. As he often says, “Explore and live life to its full potential without looking back in the rear-view mirror.” This belief guides both his personal journey and his work as a storyteller, inspiring readers to move forward with curiosity, compassion, and purpose. Today, Martin Kulik continues to write and create with the aim of telling stories that cross borders, spark imagination, and remind readers—young and old—that every journey, no matter how uncertain, holds the potential for discovery and growth.
